## Questions
- What is a solar pool pump? A solar pool pump is a pool pump that runs on DC power from its own solar panels, so it circulates and filters your water while the sun is up. Every SunRay pump is a hybrid AC/DC pump, made for pool owners who want the sun to do the daily work.
- Can solar panels run a pool pump? Runs 100% on the sun. You don't need AC at all. Home AC power is optional and capable.
- What comes in a solar pool pump kit? A complete SunRay kit pairs the hybrid AC/DC pump with solar panels sized for that pump. If you already have panels, you can buy the pump only.
- How much does a solar pool pump cost? SunRay complete kits run from $1,999 for the 1/2 HP to $5,999 for the 3 HP, each with solar panels sized for its pump. Already have panels? The pump alone starts at $999.
- What is a hybrid AC/DC pool pump? It is a pump that runs on DC power from its solar panels and can also run on home AC power. With AC connected, the pump can draw on it automatically when needed.
- How do I install a solar pool pump? Start with a sunny spot for the panels, your pool plumbing and the instructions for your SunRay kit. A qualified local installer can check the mount, the wiring and any permit your town asks for.
- What size solar pool pump do I need? Match the pump to your pool's gallons: 1/2 HP for above-ground pools of about 1,000 to 5,000 gallons; 1 HP for above-ground pools over 5,000 gallons and in-ground pools from 5,000 to about 20,000 gallons. Move up to 1.5 HP up to about 25,000 gallons, 2 HP up to about 35,000 gallons and 3 HP above 35,000 gallons.
- Can a solar pump run an in-ground pool? Yes, in-ground pools from 5,000 to about 20,000 gallons take the 1 HP kit. Bigger in-ground pools move up to the 1.5, 2 or 3 HP kit.
- How does a solar pool pump work? Sunlight hits the solar panels, they make DC power, and the pump turns that power straight into water flow through your filter. When you connect home AC power, the hybrid pump can also bring it in automatically when needed, such as for a spa after dark.
- What is the best solar pool pump? The best pump is the one sized for your pool and your sun. SunRay makes hybrid AC/DC pumps from 1/2 HP to 3 HP, so you run on sunlight and still have home power when you want it.
- Where can I buy a solar pool pump in Texas? Right here: we sell SunRay solar pool pump kits to pool owners across Texas, and each order ships to your door. Sunny can help you pick the kit and check out in English or Spanish.
- How many solar panels does it take to run a pool pump? It depends on the pump, so each SunRay kit is complete, with solar panels sized for its pump. Choose the kit by your pool's size, and the panels come matched to it.
- Is there a solar pool pump for above-ground pools? Yes, the 1/2 HP kit is made for above-ground pools of about 1,000 to 5,000 gallons, and the 1 HP kit takes larger above-ground pools over 5,000 gallons. Both come complete, with panels matched to the pump.
- Is there enough sun in Texas to run a solar pool pump? Yes. NREL's long-term solar data give a south-facing panel about 4.8 peak sun hours a day in Houston, 5.4 in Dallas-Fort Worth and 6.5 in El Paso, averaged over the whole year. In July, when pools work hardest, it is about 5.4 in Houston and 6.4 in Dallas-Fort Worth.
- Do solar pool pumps work on cloudy days? They do: under clouds the pump follows the light, running slower and speeding back up as the sun returns. For a long gray spell, optional home AC power can take over automatically when needed.
- Does a solar pool pump work with my pool filter? It does: a SunRay pump moves your water through the same circulation and filter system. Tell Sunny your filter model so the kit matches the flow you need.
- Are solar pool pumps worth it? Yes, for most pools that get good sun: the pump does its daily work on sunlight instead of on your power bill. You can save up to 30%, depending on your sun and your electricity rate. Your quote shows the earliest payback against the kit price.
- How long is each kit covered? Every SunRay kit carries a 2-year warranty.
- Where do you ship, and what does shipping cost? Free shipping on every SunRay pump and kit within the continental US. Free shipping to every Hawaiian island. Puerto Rico ships free by U.S. Postal Service.
- Can I return a kit? 30-day returns on unopened kits: the buyer pays the return freight, and shipping damage is reported within 48 hours of delivery.
- Are these pumps variable speed? Yes. SunRay pumps are variable-speed, by-the-sun hybrid AC/DC pump systems: their speed varies with the sun, and the controller can set the RPM if needed.
